The Futti Masjid, also known as Pathharwali Masjid, is a historic mosque located in Dariyapur, Ahmedabad, Gujarat. It was originally named Fateh Masjid, meaning "Victory Mosque," symbolizing triumph.
The Fateh Masjid, commonly referred to as the Futti Masjid due to its decayed state, is a large, desecrated mosque located in the Dariyapur mohalla, situated between the Delhi and Dariyapur gates. This architectural marvel, though now in ruins, showcases its historical grandeur with significant dimensions, measuring 116 feet in length and approximately 26.5 feet in depth from the front pillars to the back wall. Its unique facade is entirely open, supported by eighteen robust pillars, and crowned with five domes. The central dome, the largest of the five, is separated from the adjoining domes by a double-sided design, while the two domes at each end are placed close together. The mosque is believed to date back to either the first quarter of the 16th century or the very end of the preceding century, though it remains undated. Its architectural features reflect the craftsmanship of the era. The pillars are constructed with high square bases and transition from square at the lower half to octagonal in the upper half, achieved through chamfered corners. The slender minarets rise to a height of 25 feet and are divided into three storeys, each adorned with intricate carvings that enhance their aesthetic appeal. The mihrabs of the mosque display a variety of styles. Those at the ends are typically plain, marked by minimal ornamentation and basic moulding. Opposite the mosque lies the roza, a structure complementing the historical and spiritual significance of the site. Despite its current state of neglect, the Fateh Masjid stands as a testament to the architectural brilliance and cultural heritage of the era in which it was constructed.
