Government Degree College Sumbal was established in 2010 by the Government of Jammu & Kashmir under Cabinet Decision No. 124/08/2010 dated May 12, 2010. It was formally operationalized through Government Order No. 229-HE of 2010 dated May 19, 2010. The foundation stone of the main campus was laid by the Hon’ble Chief Minister on July 7, 2011, marking a major milestone in expanding higher education opportunities in the Sumbal subdivision. The college building was officially inaugurated by the Hon’ble Minister for Education on October 19, 2014. Since then, GDC Sumbal has been offering undergraduate education to students from Sumbal and the surrounding rural belts, providing an accessible and affordable platform for higher learning.
