Harmukh College of Education (HCE) Bandipora was established in 2005, fulfilling a long-awaited dream of the local community. Before its establishment, students from Bandipora had to travel to Srinagar or Sopore for higher studies, while many discontinued education due to financial and geographic barriers. With its opening, higher education became accessible within the district, changing the academic landscape for thousands. Since its inception, the college has produced over 6,000 graduates, including scholars, gold medallists, distinguished professionals, India’s cultural ambassador to the United States, and even Padma Shri awardees—reflecting the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and social transformation. Over time, the college expanded academically, gaining recognition under 12(B) & 2(F) of the UGC Act 1956 and affiliation with the University of Kashmir. Today, it offers a multidisciplinary curriculum across languages, social sciences, commerce, sciences, and computer applications. Aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the college also introduced Honors programs in all disciplines from the 2022–23 session.
