Khanqah Shah Hamdan, Sopore is an important Sufi religious and cultural heritage site associated with Mir Syed Ali Hamdani, popularly known as Amir-i-Kabir or Shah-i-Hamdan, a revered Sufi saint who introduced the Kubrawi Sufi order into Kashmir. He visited Kashmir several times between 1372 AD and 1383 AD during the reign of Sultan Qutub-u-din. The Khanqah at Sopore was originally built by Sultan Sikander on the banks of the River Jhelum. The structure was reconstructed twice, first in the late 19th century by Aziz Ullah Kakroo, and later modernized in the early 1980s. Architecturally, the khanqah is a three-storey vernacular Kashmiri wooden structure, comprising a prayer hall, hammam, wuzu-khanas, timber columns, external wooden staircases, and a traditional char-baam roof with a brangh pavilion, reflecting the spiritual and architectural traditions of Kashmir.
