Ghulam Nabi Bhat House is a traditional residential building located in Khawja Gilgit Mohalla, Sopore, reflecting the vernacular architectural heritage of north Kashmir. The building was originally constructed by Mohammad Maqbool Bhat, a fruit businessman, highlighting Sopore’s long-standing association with horticulture and trade. At present, the property is owned by Ghulam Nabi Bhat, the successor of Mohammad Maqbool Bhat, who continues his father’s fruit business. Sopore, historically known as Suyya-pur, was founded in 880 AD by Suyya, an able engineer during the reign of King Avantivarman, and developed as a linear riverfront town along the River Jhelum. The house follows the vernacular Kashmiri (Kṣatriya) architectural style and is planned in a rectilinear layout with three storeys. A centrally placed entrance leads into a staircase lobby with rooms arranged on either side. The ground and first floors contain four rooms each, while the second floor has three rooms. A distinctive feature of the building is the wooden dub running along the full length of the second floor, which dominates the façade and adds to the architectural character of the structure.
