Ghulam Qadir House is a prominent traditional residential building located in Untoo Hammam Mohalla, Sopore, and represents the vernacular architectural heritage of north Kashmir. The house was originally constructed in the mid-20th century by Ghulam Nabi Bacha, who was engaged in the fruit business, reflecting Sopore’s long-standing association with apple trade and agricultural commerce. The building is presently owned by Ghulam Qadir, who by profession is a butcher. Sopore, historically known as Suyya-pur, was founded in 880 AD by Suyya, the chief engineer of King Avantivarman, and developed as a linear settlement along the River Jhelum. The building follows the vernacular Kashmiri (Kṣatriya) architectural style and is located adjacent to the road, making it a significant cultural landmark in the area. Architecturally, the structure is a three-storey building with its entrance from the rear side. The ground and first floors each contain three rooms arranged along an entrance lobby, while the second floor comprises a large hall with a smaller cabin beneath the roof space. The building is among the tallest structures in the locality and also features a wooden dub on the rear façade.
