Ghulam Mohammad Dar House is a traditional residential structure located in Nau Hammam Mohalla, Sopore, reflecting the vernacular architectural character of north Kashmir. The building was constructed in the mid-20th century by Ghulam Ahmad Bacha, who was employed in the Forest Department. Over time, ownership passed to Ghulam Mohammad Dar, the present owner, who earns his livelihood as a fish seller. Sopore, historically known as Suyya-pur, was founded in 880 AD by Suyya, the chief engineer of King Avantivarman, and developed as an important riverfront settlement along the right bank of the River Jhelum. The house follows the vernacular Kashmiri (Kṣatriya) architectural style. Architecturally, the building comprises three floors. The ground floor consists of four rooms, including one large room on the left side of the corridor and three rooms on the right. The corridor terminates in a wooden staircase leading to the upper floors. The first floor also contains four rooms, while the second floor originally consisted of a large hall, which was severely damaged during the 2005 earthquake. The façade of the building is characterized by decorative arched windows on the first floor, showcasing traditional craftsmanship.
