Mohammad Maqbool Dar House is a historically significant residential structure located in Kanqah Mohalla, Sopore, reflecting the vernacular Kashmiri (Kṣatriya) architectural style. The building originally belonged to Munawar Shah Kar, who was engaged in the textile business during the later part of the 19th century, indicating the early economic prominence of the structure. Presently, the house is owned by Mohammad Maqbool Dar, who works as a daily wager in the local electricity department. Sopore, historically known as Suyya-pur, was founded in 880 AD by Suyya, the chief engineer of King Avantivarman, and evolved as a riverfront town along the right bank of the River Jhelum. Architecturally, the building is a large three-storey structure comprising four rooms on the ground floor, three rooms on the first floor, and a hall on the second floor. A dominant architectural feature of the house is the projecting wooden dub, emerging from the centre of the first floor and extending up to the second floor, forming a canopy over the central ground-floor entrance. The façade is finished in exposed brick masonry with cement pointing, highlighting its traditional construction character.
