Bashir Ahmad House is a mid-20th-century residential structure located in Jamia Qadim Mohalla, Sopore, representing the vernacular Kashmiri (Kṣatriya) architectural style. The building was originally constructed by Abdul Rehman Anees during the mid-20th century, a period marked by the expansion of traditional domestic architecture in Sopore. Presently, the house is owned by Bashir Ahmad, who is engaged in the steel business. Sopore, historically known as Suyya-pur, was founded in 880 AD by Suyya, the chief engineer of King Avantivarman, and developed as a linear riverfront town along the banks of the River Jhelum. Architecturally, the building consists of three floors organized around a central entrance staircase lobby. The ground floor and first floor each contain four rooms, symmetrically placed on either side of a central corridor, while the second floor comprises three rooms, mostly accommodated beneath the roof truss, giving the building the external appearance of a two-storey structure. The use of timber structural elements and pinjrakari-decorated wooden doors and windows reflects the continuation of local construction traditions.
