Government Degree College (GDC), Baramulla was originally established in 1905 as an English Medium School. Over time, the institution was progressively upgraded to a High School, then an Intermediate College, and finally attained the status of a Degree College in 1943. Initially, the college was affiliated with Punjab University, Lahore. In 1963, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir took over the administration of the college, and it is presently affiliated with the University of Kashmir. Located along the National Highway (NH-1A) at Khawaja Bagh, Baramulla, the college is one of the oldest and most prestigious higher education institutions in north Kashmir. The institution offers undergraduate programmes in arts, science, and commerce streams and has been awarded an A++ Grade by NAAC, reflecting its academic excellence and institutional quality.
