Sheikh-ul-Alam Memorial Degree College, Budgam was established by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir in 2005 during the Chief-Ministership of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, under the Prime Minister of India’s Reconstruction Plan aimed at strengthening higher education infrastructure in the region. The college commenced its first academic session in 2005 with only 33 students, initially functioning from Government Higher Secondary School, Budgam. The present permanent campus at Pallar has been operational since July 2009. The institution is also known as Sheikh-ul-Alam Memorial College, named after the revered Kashmiri Reshi saint Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Noorani (Sheikh Noor Din Wali), reflecting the college’s emphasis on knowledge, humanism, and social values. The college is affiliated with the University of Kashmir and offers undergraduate programmes to students from Budgam and surrounding areas.
