Masjid Mohammed Bin Abdullah

Masjid Mohammed Bin Abdullah

Masjid Muhammad Bin Abdullah (also known as the Dhannipur Mosque or Ayodhya Mosque) is a planned modern Sunni mosque complex in Dhannipur village, Ayodhya district (formerly part of Faizabad), Uttar Pradesh. It serves as a local place of worship while symbolizing reconciliation following the 2019 Supreme Court verdict on the Ayodhya dispute. The project, managed by the Indo-Islamic Cultural Foundation, includes facilities like a hospital and community kitchen open to all communities. As of late 2025, construction has faced delays due to funding and approvals, with the mosque not yet built.

Masjid Muhammad Bin Abdullah represents a significant contemporary development in India's Islamic architectural and cultural landscape, particularly in the historically sensitive region of Ayodhya-Faizabad. Following the Supreme Court's 2019 ruling in the Ayodhya land dispute case, which awarded the disputed Babri Masjid site for a Ram temple, the court directed the allocation of alternative land to the Uttar Pradesh Sunni Central Waqf Board for a new mosque. This led to the designation of a 5-acre plot in Dhannipur village, approximately 25 km from central Ayodhya. The mosque is named after Muhammad bin Abdullah, the father of Prophet Muhammad, to emphasize themes of peace, inclusivity, and avoidance of associations with historical conquerors. The Indo-Islamic Cultural Foundation (IICF) trust oversees the project, envisioning not just a place of prayer but a multifaceted complex including a hospital, library, museum, community kitchen, and research center—designed to benefit people of all faiths. Plans for the mosque feature Indo-Islamic architecture with modern elements, such as multiple minarets and facilities for communal harmony. Preparatory work, including flag hoisting and sapling planting, began symbolically in 2021, with foundation stone-laying discussions involving international figures. However, progress has been slow due to bureaucratic hurdles, funding shortages, and design revisions. As a local mosque in a rural setting, it aims to serve the surrounding communities in Dhannipur and nearby areas.
