Rander Eid Gah is a prominent religious site located in the town of Rander, situated in Surat, Gujarat. It is primarily used for Eid prayers, especially during the Islamic festivals of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.
Mughal Emperor Jehangir, during his travels to Ahmedabad, made a historic stop at a significant location near Jehangirpur, which is now known as Rander Eid-Gah. This particular stop was marked by an eventful reception hosted by Malik Tujjar, the mayor of Rander, who was not only a respected leader but also one of the wealthiest businessmen of his time. Eager to honor and welcome the Mughal Emperor, Malik Tujjar extended a grand invitation (dawat) to Jehangir, which the emperor graciously accepted. To show his respect and admiration for the emperor, the mayor arranged a magnificent gesture: a red carpet was laid out from the mayor's palace all the way to Jehangirpur, symbolizing the grandeur of the occasion. The evening culminated in a lavish dinner, which was served to the emperor and his entourage on golden plates, a display of opulence fitting for such a royal event. Once the feast was over, the emperor, in a noble act of charity, ordered the golden plates to be distributed to those in need. Following the sumptuous meal, Jehangir offered his Friday prayers at the Jumma Masjid in Rander, a mosque that has been a center of faith and reverence for centuries. Additionally, Jehangir participated in the Eid Salah at the Eid-Gah, a prayer ground located nearby. To this day, Rander Eid-Gah holds immense significance, as it remains a focal point of religious gatherings. Over 5 lakh people from the surrounding areas of Rander come together annually to offer their Eid Salah here, continuing the tradition that dates back to the time of Emperor Jehangir. The event not only serves as a reminder of the emperor's visit but also as a testament to the enduring cultural and religious importance of the location.
