Jama Masjid, Tehseenganj, Lucknow: A Regal Marvel of Islamic Architecture Located in Tehseenganj (previously Mustafabad), Husainabad, Lucknow, the Jama Masjid is an exquisite example of the architectural brilliance of the Kingdom of Oudh. Commissioned in 1839 A.D. by King Mohammad Ali Shah Bahadur, the 3rd King of Oudh, the mosque was envisioned to surpass the grandeur of the Jama Masjid in Delhi. Although the King passed away before its completion, his wife, Queen Malika Jahan Sahiba, ensured its completion in 1845 A.D., marking it as a monument of royal devotion and artistic elegance. The Jama Masjid at Tehseenganj is a stunning blend of Mughal and Awadhi architectural styles, constructed with Lakhauri bricks and coated with lime plaster. Its unique features include: Prayer Hall: A rectangular prayer hall sits on a lofty square terrace on the western side. The fa?ade boasts eleven arches, with the central arch towering above the roof, forming a sharply pointed, grand doorway decorated with colored stucco motifs. Domes: The prayer hall is crowned with three high pear-shaped double domes, each adorned with an inverted lotus motif at the top. These domes enhance the mosque?s regal stature. Minarets: Two towering octagonal four-storeyed minarets flank the mosque, tapering elegantly and topped with chhatris (domed pavilions), adding to its grandeur. Stucco Decorations: The mosque is richly decorated with colored stucco motifs, showcasing intricate floral and geometric patterns.
