Ghodwadi Shareef is the revered resting place of Hazrat Syed Shah Ismail Quadri, a prominent Sufi saint of the 9th century Hijri. A descendant of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), he belonged to the Sadat family, known for their noble lineage. Hazrat Syed Shah Ismail was known for his piety, strong character, kindness, and generosity, often helping the poor and needy and welcoming guests into his home. He was the nephew of Syed Shah Chanda Hussaini of Gogi Sharif. During the reign of Sultan Ala Uddin Bahmani in 838 A.H., Hazrat Ismail Quadri served in the royal army and was stationed in Mohamedabad (Bider). One day, a Brahman girl, who was a neighbor to Hazrat Syed Shah, was forcibly abducted by the Sultan?s men after word of her beauty reached the Sultan. Despite the Sultan?s notorious cruelty, Hazrat Ismail Quadri was deeply troubled by the injustice and decided to intervene. Disguised in his military uniform, he entered the Sultan?s palace and found the girl, who recognized him and ran to his protection. Hazrat Ismail Quadri escorted her out of the palace, evading the heavy security. Once the girl was safely returned to her family, he advised them to leave the area for their safety, assuring them that Allah?s protection would be with them. Afterward, Hazrat Ismail Quadri, along with his wife Zahra Bi Saheba and their three sons, left Bider and traveled westward. The Sultan, furious over his failed plot, sent an army to capture and kill him. However, the Shaikh and his family evaded capture, and with the divine grace of Allah, Hazrat Ismail Quadri defended himself by using arrows, miraculously defeating the Sultan?s army. The Shaikh then retreated to the mountains near Ghod Wadi, where he performed acts of worship. During this time, he discovered a spring emerging from the ground where one of his arrows had landed. Following his prayers, he threw another arrow to the west, which landed in a thick forest. He later went to the forest to retrieve the arrow and decided to settle there permanently with his family. Hazrat Ismail Quadri passed away at this site, and the graves of him, his wife Zahra Bi Saheba, and their sons, Syed Shah Mahatab Quadri, Syed Shah Faiz Ullah Quadri, and Syed Shah Haider Quadri, are all located within the shrine area. Every Thursday, a large number of visitors come to the shrine to pray for their wishes to be fulfilled in the name of the Shaikh. During the summer months, the shrine attracts many visitors who offer sacrifices of goats, and especially on Amavas (the last night of the lunar month), people gather to offer coconuts in devotion to Hazrat Syed Shah Ismail Quadri?s blessed memory.
