The Islamic University of Science & Technology (IUST) was established through Act No. XVIII of 2005 by the Jammu and Kashmir State Legislative Assembly. Located in Awantipora, approximately 25 kilometers from Srinagar, the university serves as a center for higher learning for the people of Jammu and Kashmir and its neighboring regions. The Chancellor of the university is the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, and the Executive Council, chaired by the Vice Chancellor, serves as the executive authority of the university. Academic Structure: IUST comprises several schools of study, each offering a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate programs: School of Technology: Offers undergraduate programs such as B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering, Food Technology, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. Postgraduate programs include Masters in Computer Applications, M.Sc. IT, and M.Sc. Food Technology. School of Business Studies: Provides a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) at the undergraduate level and a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) at the postgraduate level. Recent Developments: On January 1, 2025, IUST became the first state university in Kashmir to receive a license from the Ministry of Communication to establish a community radio station (FM 91.2 MHz) on its campus, aiming to enhance community engagement and outreach.
