The Islamic University of Science & Technology (IUST), established in 2005, is a government university located in Awantipora, Jammu and Kashmir, India. The Islamic University of Science & Technology (IUST) was established through Act No. XVIII of 2005 by the Jammu and Kashmir State Legislative Assembly. Located in Awantipora, approximately 25 kilometers from Srinagar, the university serves as a center for higher learning for the people of Jammu and Kashmir and its neighboring regions. The Chancellor of the university is the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, and the Executive Council, chaired by the Vice Chancellor, serves as the executive authority of the university. Academic Structure: IUST comprises several schools of study, each offering a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate programs: School of Technology: Offers undergraduate programs such as B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering, Food Technology, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. Postgraduate programs include Masters in Computer Applications, M.Sc. IT, and M.Sc. Food Technology. School of Business Studies: Provides a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) at the undergraduate level and a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) at the postgraduate level. School of Humanities and Social Sciences: Includes departments offering MA programs in Arabic Language and Literature, Islamic Studies, English Language and Literature, and Journalism & Mass Communication. The Department of English also offers a B.A. (Hons.) in English Language and Literature. School of Sciences: Houses the Department of Mathematics and the Mantaqi Center for Science and Society, focusing on natural sciences and promoting scientific research and innovation. Campus and Facilities: The university campus spans over 205 acres, providing a serene environment conducive to learning. In recent years, the administration has expanded the campus by acquiring additional land for future infrastructure projects, including a solar park and a biodiversity park. In 2021, IUST inaugurated an international standard athletic track, enhancing its sports facilities. The central library, named "Rumi Library," houses approximately 50,000 books and subscribes to over 12,000 journals, providing extensive resources for students and faculty. The library also offers a "Book Bank" facility for needy and meritorious students and maintains a "Career Corner" with resources for job seekers. Recent Developments: On January 1, 2025, IUST became the first state university in Kashmir to receive a license from the Ministry of Communication to establish a community radio station (FM 91.2 MHz) on its campus, aiming to enhance community engagement and outreach. Affiliations and Recognitions: IUST is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). It is also a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
