The Ilayangudi Melappallivaasal Mosque (also known as Mela Pallivasal) is one of the most prominent and historic Islamic landmarks in the town of Ilayangudi, Sivaganga district, Tamil Nadu. Constructed in 1744, its name "Melappallivaasal" translates to "West Mosque," reflecting its location on the western side of the town’s original Muslim settlement. The mosque is renowned for its two majestic minarets, which stand approximately 90 feet (27 meters) tall, making them among the tallest structures in the town. Historically, the mosque served the "Eruthu Pattadai" community (traditionally involved in the bullock cart transportation trade). Today, it is a significant spiritual hub featuring a Madrasa, a library, and guest accommodation. It served the 'Eruthu Pattadai Jamath'—a community historically centred around the bullock cart trade. Varusai Mohamed Maniyaran originally established the site and has evolved from a small settlement mosque into a major local landmark, with its 1962 expansion being inaugurated by the esteemed leader Quid-E-Millath, cementing its status in the region's cultural narrative.
