The Tomb of Sikandar Lodi, located in Lodhi Gardens, New Delhi, is the burial site of Sikandar Lodi, the second ruler of the Lodi Dynasty, who reigned from 1489 to 1517 CE. Built by his son, Ibrahim Lodi, shortly after Sikandar's death in 1517-1518 CE, the tomb is a prominent example of Indo-Islamic architecture. It is an octagonal structure, inspired in part by the tomb of Muhammad Shah, also located within the gardens. As India's first garden tomb and its earliest surviving enclosed garden tomb, it marks a significant milestone in the region's architectural history. The tomb is surrounded by a large, fortified complex with a south-facing entrance that leads to two umbrella-shaped domes, adding to the symmetrical beauty of the site. The tomb chamber itself is encircled by a veranda with intricately carved pillars, and the building's design includes sloping buttresses at its corners. The walls feature Mughal architectural elements and inscriptions in multiple foreign languages, along with decorative enameled tiles in vibrant colors. Additionally, the western wall of the tomb serves a dual purpose, acting as a mosque with a marked quibla direction, further enhancing the site's cultural and religious significance.
