Pather Masjid, also known locally as Naev Masheed, is a historically significant Mughal-era stone mosque situated in the old city of Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. Built in 1623 CE by the Mughal Empress Noor Jehan, the wife of Emperor Jahangir, the mosque stands on the left bank of the River Jhelum, directly opposite the revered Khanqah-e-Moula shrine. Unlike most traditional Kashmiri mosques constructed primarily of wood, Pather Masjid is entirely built of stone, reflecting a strong influence of Mughal architectural style. The mosque is rectangular in plan and is distinguished by its nine arched mihrabs, with the central arch being larger and more prominent than the others, and by the absence of the typical pyramidal roof common in Kashmiri religious architecture. Soon after its construction, the mosque was declared unsuitable for congregational prayers and was used for secular purposes for nearly three centuries, until it was reconverted into a functioning mosque in the early 1930s. Owing to its architectural uniqueness and historical importance, the structure has been declared a Monument of National Importance by the Archaeological Survey of India and remains an active place of worship today.
