The Hazrat Sydani Bee Bee Dargah (also spelt Hazrath Sayyadani Bibi Sahiba) is a highly revered spiritual landmark and a rare example of a shrine dedicated to a female saint in the Vellore region. Located in the historic Old Burma Bazaar area, it serves as a centre for interfaith harmony, attracting devotees from all walks of life seeking spiritual solace and intercession. Historical & Religious Significance A Saintly Lineage: The Dargah is dedicated to Hazrath Sayyadani Bibi Sahiba, who is traditionally believed to have hailed from a soldier’s (Fouji) family. Her association with the military is deeply rooted in local history, particularly during the era of Tipu Sultan. Establishment: While the saint's spiritual presence dates back over two centuries, to the late 18th century, the formal masonry structure and its integration into the local urban fabric were consolidated in 1968. Communal Harmony: The shrine is celebrated as a "Centre of Harmony." It is uniquely visited by a significant number of people from diverse religious backgrounds—Hindus, Muslims, and Christians alike—who come to offer Chadar (ceremonial cloth) and flowers in fulfilment of vows (Harake). The Miraculous Tree: A sacred Mango Tree within the complex is a major point of interest. Local legends state that the tree once "bled" a red pigment when workers attempted to trim it, and it eventually leaned to the ground in a "sleeping" posture without causing injury to the children playing nearby. Spiritual Tradition: The site is particularly frequented by women seeking blessings for family well-being, health, and children. The annual Urs festival is a time of high spiritual activity, marked by special prayers and the distribution of food (Langar). Location & Connectivity: The Dargah is situated on Anna Salai in the Balaji Nagar/Old Burma Bazaar area, one of Vellore's most central and active commercial zones. Spiritual Sanctuary: Despite being located in the heart of the busy Burma Bazaar, the inner courtyard of the Dargah is noted for its exceptional tranquillity and meditative atmosphere. Intercessory Power: It is widely believed by locals that prayers made at the tomb of Sydani Bee Bee are especially effective for domestic peace and the healing of children. Strategic Access: Its location on the main Anna Salai arterial road makes it highly accessible for both residents and pilgrims travelling from neighbouring districts via Katpadi or the New Bus Stand.
