The Hajrat Mahaboob Subahaani Dargah (also known as the Mahboob Subhani Dargah) is a revered spiritual landmark situated in the Mandhakarai area of Villupuram, Tamil Nadu. It is dedicated to Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Qadir Gilani (popularly known as Mahboob-e-Subhani or the "Beloved of God"), the 12th-century Sufi saint and founder of the Qadiriyya order. Historical & Religious Significance Sufi Heritage: Although the main shrine of the saint is in Baghdad, this Dargah serves as a Chillah (a spiritual retreat or commemorative site) where devotees gather to seek blessings. It represents the deep-rooted Sufi tradition in Tamil Nadu, emphasising healing, inner peace, and divine love. Establishment: The present structure and its organized "Jamath" activities have been a fixture of the Mandhakarai neighbourhood since 1978. It has undergone significant renovations over the decades to accommodate the increasing number of pilgrims. Communal Harmony: True to Sufi values, the Dargah is a symbol of religious pluralism. It is visited by people of all faiths, particularly during the annual Urs festival, which features a grand Sandal procession through the streets of Villupuram, celebrating the saint's life and teachings. Spiritual Hub: Beyond the shrine, the complex functions as a centre for daily congregational prayers and spiritual discourses. It is especially busy on Thursdays and during the month of Rabi al-Thani, when special prayers (Giyarwee Sharif) are held.
